Ashford, McNamara, Ross - Moonglow
- Ashford, McNamara, and Ross have created a compilation of songs that are oldies, but are favorites among those in that genre, on Moonglow. This album features classics such as “It Don’t Mean a Thing (if it ain’t got that Swing).” Many of these will go unrecognized by young generations, but those who grew up listening to these songs or played them for themselves would enjoy these versions. The melodies are sweet and the lyrics are romantic and pretty in simplicity. However, all of these versions have a distinct southern and/or folk vibe; it works well with some and not with others. I prefer “It Don’t Mean a Thing . . .” without the slight southern/folk tinge. The alternating masculine and feminine vocals add to sweetness of the sound and to the romantic quality; everything is better when it’s requited in the romantic realm.
