Quebec
Putumayo presents Quebec, which features various artists performing a complete spectrum of French and foreign music alike. There's a distinct sound wound in through all of the tracks, but a clear distinction giving each artist a unique feel and identity. This compilation of an array of different sounds serves as a very upbeat rendition that is quite soothing.
There's enough flair communicated by each artist which provides a nice flavorful album. At no point are there empty spots or dead standoffs as each song is fresh and new. There seems to be a sort of urban feel to the album in the sense that the songs seem to be used as devices for motion between clustered bodies of people. Also, there's a strong sense of pride instilled in these tracks which really ingrains the passion for which these musicians strive.
Quebec seems to promote the notion of curiosity and adventure in each of its tracks. The music is intelligent and in a way sophisticated with its delivery and choices. Thought provoking tracks like these are rarely seen. One of the joys of this compilation is that although primarily upbeat, the tracks can be used to capture a wide spectrum of moods and tones that can be felt on a daily basis, whether they be hopeful or patterns suggesting a turn for the worst. Some of the songs ? even though foreign ? share similarities to American artists, whether it be in the sound of the vocals or in the instrumentals. It's mildly refreshing to hear a different take on music that we consider so regular to us.
