An American Tale

Echo Screen is a punk rock band straight out of New Jersey, which shows a lot of promise; unfortunately they've been inactive since 2007. Whether they had something unique to unleash upon the music world is up for debate, but after listening to their album entitled An American Tale, they had a fine consistency. Their songs were smooth and coasted through with the punk rock intensity that notable bands like Green Day would express.

An American Tale can be summed up as being short and sweet as it only has seven track listings. Each song is a solid example of what punk rock should be. It's inviting and grabs hold of us. There's no darkness or depression as it's all upbeat and serpentines to highs and lows incorporating distinctive formulaic ingredients to make each song hit us with a surprise. There's good build from slow to faster tempos as the intensity and passion hold constant throughout in vast quantities.

I'd have to say Echo Screen brings nothing new to the table as far as sound though. That's not to say they're not talented and that An American Tale isn't a quality album ? it is. But as far as other bands of the genre that are out there, they sound just like any other above average one. There's nothing distinguishable about them to give them an edge. I wouldn't be able to listen to Echo Screen and pick them out blindfolded. Echo Screen disbanded in 2007, but of their existing work, they sure as hell weren't far off.
