Tauk - Self Titled
- Tauk’s self titled album cuts to the quick with a short listing of five tracks. Their band name is derived from their origins of Montauk, out in Long Island. The band is composed of five members and incorporate different genres of music and blend them into creating a new and distinct, identifiable sound. It’s primarily rock, but there are elements of funk and jazz which give it an offbeat quality that’s really quite enjoyable.
It’s new and inviting as it’s not used in excess supply. It’s not overwhelming as you can really tell how passionate they are. I appreciate the inventiveness and leadership qualities. They’re not trying to replicate the status quo or norm. Sure you can here remnants or similarities, but by no means is Tauk’s sound a replication.
With the five tracks, it’s not enough I don’t think. It just gives you a sample or a taste of what this band can do. Tauk needs a full album to really demonstrate their capabilities and to show they can sustain their talent for the longevity. The sound created is something I can envision being long lasting in the years to come. There needs to be more boldness and creativity like Tauk.
The lyrics were surprisingly well strung together. Music enthusiasts will get sucked into Tauk’s originality. They display the notable qualities of the respective genres they draw inspiration from. So it’s not like listening to the typical jazz music in a bar late at night that will depress you with loneliness. No, Tauk hones into the core of artistic expression through fusion and unleashes a paradise of sound.
