Amelia - A Long, Lively List of Repairs
- The music featured on A Long, Lively List of Repairs, by Amelia, features quiet and somber vocals in the foreground of slow to medium ranging rhythmic tempos. To me, this style falls into what I like to call the rainy day collection, or one that resides in the shadows. It’s not necessarily dark, but it has the connotation and mood expressing loss and despair.
Tragedy seems to fuel this album as the slow progression allows the dwelling of something distraught in the quiet words. These words seem to be spoken rather than sung like a show stopping tune. That’s fine, as it works with the music. Occasionally, we’re greeted with the riff of a rhythmic acoustic guitar which is quite pleasant, to say the least.
This style of music seems like the whole belief and philosophy for which Amelia has bestowed in itself, is like a big secret, hence the hushed and minimized volume for everything. Music like this tends to incorporate pain in each note, thus being the reason for its silence. I’d say you can hear it in the lyrics, but you’ll have to crank the volume very high to hear them.
All things being equal though, there’s some talent that resides in the instruments and vocal chords of the members of Amelia. Whether it’s hindered by their hushed style and mood displacement is up for debate. Music is a form of artistic expression and that’s what Amelia is utilizing it as and justifiably so. The question remains though if people want to hear their stories.
