Taj Mahal - Maestro
- After a five year absence, two time Grammy winner Taj Mahal returns with a 12 track set album entitled Maestro. Taj Mahal is one of the most influential blues and roots artists in the last half century. Maestro continues his constant exploration of complex origins and underpinnings in American music. They say that blues artists always stand at a crossroads, but it’s unanimous that Taj Mahal is the crossroads.
Taj’s sounds are rich and full of life with tons of variety. He picks a taste from other genres to blend it in with his unique sound. This blues has a new take on it as Taj bares his soul, but it’s not something to take pity on. The music is upbeat and hip, laced with encouragement and the firm feeling to always carry on.
The tracks are practically danceable – that’s how uncommon they truly are. It’s a new age and Taj Mahal has realized that, with this new release. In a loner’s genre, Taj has gathered musicians alike and different to collaborate to make a burst of music that is sensational both geographically and culturally.
I was never a big fan of American blues, but Taj’s take on it with Maestro could sway me. Each track is so new and fresh as it can’t be clearly identified as a true blues song. This can be an excellent quality to have as it will provide more of a draw to outsiders. Taj’s ambition is strong and profound as Maestro allows blues to enter a new age.
