Jesus H Christ and the Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse - Happier Than You
- Jesus H Christ and the Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse . . . wow. What a name. That’s a mouthful, but with an elongated proverbial play on a messiah and impending doom, it’s certainly an eye opener that makes you do a double take. To me, this distinct sound is a bridge between Bowling for Soup and Reel Big Fish, with the induction of a whining distant female voice in the foreground. However, building on this notion and the “horns” in the name, I think this band is this generation’s Chumbawamba.
There’s definitely a comedic element within the music that is utterly hilarious. The horns are one of the most prominent features of the band and definitely separate it from other up and comers. Their album, Happier Than You, carries a unique pop punk feel that is quite unusual, but in a good way. It’s very lighthearted – not that music is a joke – but their music is all in good fun and is laid back.
You can tell the members are high flying and an excited bunch that can hardly contain themselves like kids in a candy shop. Happier Than You compiles songs that are thunderous with a pop and definitely explores territories that are from the far reaches of boredom and “ordinary” music of today. This group seems like an odd bunch, but it’s all in good fun, which is what music should be about. Topics in the lyrics can be designated as unexplored or at the very least underexplored, which is certainly a unique and fresh taste they’re bringing along in addition to their blaring quartet of horns and comedic female vocals.
