By Honour

My initial thoughts were that Ereb Altor's album, entitled By Honour, was too short, but that proves to not be the case. With only seven tracks, each one packs a whole lot more as the run times reach lengths that make it balance out to a full length album. Very deceiving, and this trickery proves to be appropriate of the shifty domain of metal. By Honour could be described as epic, in terms of a journey through the course of listening to this album with its carried out tracks.

The accentuated guitar riffs are pretty contagious and practically haunting. The music conveyed by Ereb Altor has a bit of a scary, hindering parallel, but it's well executed and presented. Some would question the presence of a satanic or demonic influence lingering. This quality might turn some people off, but there's no denying the talent embedded in the band. With such limited tracks, I feel the album is lacking a little variety. Each song seems to follow the same formula, which is slow guitar strums in the opening that build up to the firing out and pounding of brimstone in the middle with echoing vocals, that eventually quiets down.

Each track isn't identical, as there are instances throughout the course of some of these eight minute songs where there's a little spice added, like an amusing electric guitar solo or quick slow downs and speed ups. Ereb Altor carries the waywardness of metal through faithfully with its dark and frightening mood transferred. There's no denying though the appreciation for epic ballads that stretch through the sea of time that Ereb Altor performs and makes you take notice of the endurance and dedication they collectively have.
