Chris Daniels & the Kings - Stealin' the Covers
- Chris Daniels and the Kings are a seven piece band that contribute a nice, bouncy and light sound that accentuates the horns, given it's a “horn band” coined name. Their contributions serve as a celebratory gesture to music which makes them so worldly. The band really is bumping with its jumpy, hip swinging play that finds a common ground between rock 'n' roll and blues, making for an aural hybrid of “funky blues.” It’s very pleasing to the ears and a satisfying listen.

Stealin’ the Covers, their most recent album, highlights the group’s talents both individually and when fused together. The lyrics speak to us riding waves of solo riffs and horn titillated romps through the oceans of time. It’s fast paced and edgy that really shocks you. The harmonic blend of so many instruments is in perfect proportion with each one getting their day in the sun. You would think maybe it could potentially be too much and utter chaos, but that’s not the case.

The rhythms and tempos are brilliant as every track is a risky endeavor that recoups anything lost in the process. The vocals are delivered with such conviction that it resurrects us like we were long dead before this funky bunch came to town. Genre blending can be hit or miss, but Chris Daniels and the Kings manage to make it work and harmonize. Triumphant horns blaring, guitar riffs that exude a soothing mystical haze and dancing piano keys coil together, stopping us dead in our tracks like a mesmerizing sunburst.
