OK NOW

Jon McLaughlin gives it more than the old college try on his sophomoric effort, OK NOW, which is a love encompassed broadcast of the soul. With lyrics coiled around the heart in restricting vice, McLaughlin's music takes off delivering a fiery, poppy, rock sprinkled onslaught of passionate ballads. The range his tracks exhibit is very intriguing and keeps us hooked with its catchy symphonic clutches. As a self described child of the '80s, McLaughlin is a shape shifting form as his tracks use a little bit of everything from '80s to '90s.

On OK NOW, a tremendous arsenal of instruments are incorporated to make each track a home run full of zest. He flips the tempo on us to always keep us guessing. McLaughlin's tracks are impressive as they are all mixtures of multiple artists with his own touch ingrained. His music is a new taste and is certainly refreshing. I admire the gutsy play to try something new. He took a risk and created an album that has existential tunes that are elaborate and cultivate important themes.

This young singer/songwriter delivers music the way it should be. He's got an accentuated strut that shoots music from the hip. OK NOW soars with what seems to be homage to great past inspirations that really culminate a soul's being. McLaughlin's style and take are seemingly unmatched as he revamped himself after his Oscar nominated songs for Disney's Enchanted. Different is good and OK NOW compiles an auxiliary of sounds that makes McLaughlin a showstopper on every number.
