Dark Dark Dark - The Snow Magic
- Dark Dark Dark’s album The Snow Magic seems to stem from its origins of the snow covered and blizzard battle ground of Minnesota as the song titles and lyrics seemed to reflect the wintery gloom. The stark and desolate landscape seems to be a supreme visual as they paint a dark and saddened picture. The Snow Magic sweeps us away to a dusky countryside in medieval times as a secondary destination where food is scarce. The voice is hindered at a distant echo that fades away like hope and salvation in an empty world.
The Minnesota roots run throughout the album sending a haunting message that snow dampens life’s canvas and institutes limitations. Even with this chilling feeling of despair, I think Dark Dark Dark conjures up musical schemes that are unique and should be appreciated. They have a wound a formulaic clock internally into the framework of their songs that make each track a haunted opera. They utilize the melody of an organ or accordion to embed shards of melancholy into their works.
Dark music isn’t always cumbersome as with The Snow Magic, it proves to be quite touching if you listen to the lyrics. There’s a plethora of assortments that pulsate with a throbbing sorrow. Dark Dark Dark is a musically talented bunch that travels down a lonely path, taken by few, to give us a mixed form of music that isn’t the typical standard we’re accustomed to. The Snow Magic acts as a mirror to a dark world with embers glowing in the white blanketed landscape that’s withdrawn.
