Hope for the Hopeless

Often compared to John Mayer, Brett Dennen makes attempt number three to step out of his shadowed comparison with his new album, Hope for the Hopeless. Dennen's howling voice demonstrates maturity and much potential. This album follows the curves of an undulating hilly landscape with a winding road carved. Hope for the Hopeless is a wonderful composite that explores a number of themes and is an encapsulation of the soul that is shared with us. Dennen divides his time as to those strummed ballads about love both had and lost and also irons in some political and social tones throughout.

Hope for the Hopeless is lightweight and charmed as it takes flight like a pure white virgin dove. With its steadfast demeanor and curvaceous wavy form, positivity gleams throughout, never wallowing in self pity. Dennen is a youthful acoustic guitar player who immerses himself in his music. He sounds older than he actually is. Hope for the Hopeless seems to possess a stronghold on the similar sounds of the competitive genre, but Dennen doesn't budge, as his passion is vivid in each note.

Each song is an adventurous track that will bump and bounce. The tracks pulsate and come to life through Dennen's voice and hefty acoustic build. Dennen doesn't do much to shake the Mayer comparison, but this album never becomes stale as it's a constant stellar set of tunes. The lyrics aren't as powerful or heart wrenching as some love ballads of the past, but are true enough. The music throughout is varied and Dennen demonstrates his talent among the open floodgates of singer/songwriters of the modern day.
