Val Emmich - Little Daggers
- Val Emmich’s Little Daggers is a gift of little consolations that has its bow unravel to reveal little satisfying gum drops that cure our sweet tooth. It’s a treat to listen to as Emmich makes each song take on a different form that could be placed in a different genre. Some have a country touch to it whereas another might be that soulful rock n roll. He even has backtracks that sprinkle in an obscure instrument that chimes, adding a little accent onto each track. Emmich explores a number of topics in his songs and makes each song catchy as the great lyrics tell some terrific stories.
The melodies are joyous and flicker hope in the distance as these songs have a hierarchy of optimism that trickles down. Little Daggers is an impressive compilation of tracks that is both enjoyable and flowing. There’s a great mix of sounds that really propels the album forward. Emmich has lyrics that are rich and his voice and melodies allow the songs to blossom and take flight. We’re hooked from the upbeat first track that bounces. Little Daggers proves to be an album that will coast along in one fluid listen without the need to skip a song.
All aspects of production for the songs seem to be in harmony as they fuse together with a captivating sound and unforgettable telling of stories. From romantic to jocular waters, Little Daggers has no bounds with its wide range of hard fast beats that tear it up to slower more delicate songs that play close to the heart. Val Emmich creates a powerful gust of music that blows us away.
