Jovino Santos Neto - Live at Caramoor
- The grandeur and extravagant tradition pour out of the notes played by Jovino Santos Neto on his live performance album, Live at Caramoor. Jovino, in his masterful way, seduces us as he runs his hands along the spine of the keys in riffs producing rattling shimmers. There’s no denying the talent as the songs are longwinded and stretch from the opening note to the closing, demonstrating a sincere love as Jovino plays the piano to perfection. With his fine tuned fingers frolicking aboard the keys, like a frog hopping on lily pads, the beauty of the lavish magnificence of this instrument is unveiled in its true form.
The sound streaming out is a blur as it is hopping at times with a mysterious insecurity lingering in the shadows. Not to say the tracks are stale to the naked eye, but each track gives little distinction from another at times. The slow ballads are drawn out stringing from the same ball of tangled yarn. However, to the true listeners, I think you may detect – if you listen carefully – there are little subtleties that resonate with oscillating flags of alertness that act as little spurs.
Live at Caramoor acts a surreal dream that goes postal in a flash. It draws you in with its dancing notes that hop along the path enticing you just enough to follow prancing along. Jovino plays splendid numbers that encompass us and ultimately make us submit to a bittersweet feeling. This album has a lot going on beneath the surface that can probably only be unearthed after multiple listens to fully appreciate its lustrous composition.
