Gian Wiegner & Gary Brunotte - About Time
- Gian Wiegner and Gary Brunotte form a dynamic duo as they work together producing a consistent and quite moderately set piece of jazz on their album, About Time. The music seems to hover in a grey area, taking the middle passage in terms of the mood it sets. It’s an easy listen with thumping melodies that are very temperately streamlined. Time seems to stand still for the duo as the delivery is methodic and carefully handled. The melodies really come to life and follow a visually flowing outline of a curvaceous, hilly landscape.
Each track features fine tuned plucks that are like little alarming pricks and sends a rush once it touches the skin. There’s no denying the talented performance that sends out scaled combinations of notes, which are tingling, and gives you goose bumps as it struts with a cool demeanor. I have to say, About Time seems to lack diversity as you move through the track listing. Each one seems to closely resemble each other like they’re all siblings. Every song seems to possess the same mood and evoke the same emotions. I would like to have seen a little more of a roller-coaster ride.
About Time is undeniably a very chill and soothing listen as it eases all the stress away. However, I feel this jazz lacks the adventurous and daring imagination to be really great. I think this duo plays it too safe and has the necessary talent to really take their music to the next level; they just need to be fearless and take a chance.
