Various Artists - Twilight Soundtrack
- Okay, I have to admit that I am a fan of the “Twilight” series by best-selling author Stephenie Meyer and thus had encouragement to buy the soundtrack for the upcoming movie.
I wasn’t fooled, though, by the fact that it when straight to No. 1, selling 165,000 or so copies. I still had the question: Does the CD live up to its status and rock?
The answer is simply yes, it does indeed rock with the CD being a very well-balanced contemporary mix.
Bands like Muse and Linkin Park have delivered well in the past and stay on course with the dance worthy “Supermassive Black Hole” and melodic, reminiscent “Leave Out All the Rest,” respectively.
There were new bands on the CD – well, new to me - that have proven themselves worthy of being looked into as well.
Perry Farrell’s “Go All the Way (into the Twilight)” had an eerie, dance worthy, electric beat, and the Black Ghosts' melodic “Full Moon” dazzled.
Paramore tried to deliver in the same gothic, electric style with songs “Decode” and “I Caught Myself,” but fall short somehow. They're not bad, just not personal favorites.
And what review of the Twilight Soundtrack would be complete without a mention of Carter Burwell’s version of “Bella’s Lullaby”? It may not be what fans have played in their heads, but it has a peaceful and loving feel that goes hand in hand with the book.
Parents can be happy with buying this CD for their teen eagerly awaiting the Nov. 21 movie release, as there is nothing unfriendly for a younger audience in it. No parental warnings are necessary.
Speaking of parents, non-fans of the book series need not worry, the CD has an electrical rock sound that even non-twilighters can enjoy.
