Take 6 - The Standard
- Take 6 is in perfect harmony as a collaborative a cappella powerhouse dishes out swinging grooves in a jazzy R&B rhythm that is uplifting on their album, The Standard. It’s superb as they work together to produce unprecedented music through just sheer vocals. There’s a bit of a twist incorporated as these guys have built on their gospel roots. Some of the songs really get you in the groove, generating vibes that really can make your hips swing. The songbirds’ voices are a delight and as sweet as honey.
The incorporation of a brass band on a few selected numbers really gives them a spiced up flavor that sends their soulful collaborations soaring out of reach. The Standard proves it’s worthy of multiple listens as it is just pure fun and entertainment. Take 6 does some treatments to jazz classics as they accentuate their vocals to all forms of melodies. The sensual grooves are genuinely great songs, but honed in on the vocals which obviously is the driving force of a cappella.
A cappella can be inventive and experimental and the blend of jazz and R&B solidifies that notion. The Standard goes beyond the standard a cappella with its encroachment into this fused territory. Take 6 is soulful and passionate, working with a great comfort with one another that you can hear radiate out of their collaborative vocals. Take 6 has achieved all sorts of recognition, receiving countless big music awards, and in The Standard, they show us why they are so worthy of such crowned honors.
