Greatest Hits

Greatest Hits is the fourth album by German trance band Groove Coverage. Groove Coverage, in general, is an amazing group, delivering every song with vibrant exuberance and intense lyrics. It is impossible to get tired of a Groove Coverage song, so, naturally, their Greatest Hits album is musical perfection.

What is ironic about these songs is that most of the beats and tunes are fast-paced and will put you into a great mood, no matter what kind of day you've had, but the lyrics are deeply depressing, making you do a double take. "Little June" is about a girl who commits suicide. "Moonlight Shadow" contains the line, "He was shot six times by a man on the run, and she couldn't find how to push through." When listening to the song, though, it's almost impossible to process these meanings. The songs are sung with such energy and enthusiasm, and the pure techno interludes add to the liveliness. Despite the horrible messages, the songs still manage to be uplifting.

On the second disk, there are a few slower songs that detract from the brilliance that is Groove Coverage. "She (Skam Remix)" sounds like a golden oldie, while "Moonlight Shadow (Pure & Direct Version)" might as well be renamed "The Most Depressing Song in the Universe."

However, the passion and fire in Greatest Hits is powerful and contagious. This CD is a must-have for anyone who loves dance music.
