The Pleasure Principle
Most people know one song from Gary Numan's The Pleasure Principle, the song, "Cars." This song was featured in the movie, Cars, starring Owen Wilson, and is about, obviously, cars. What most people don't know is that Gary Numan has 17 other songs on The Pleasure Principle, all of which are equal to, if not better than, "Cars."
The Pleasure Principle certainly delivers on its name: It is extremely pleasurable to listen to. Each song is named after an object from modern society, such as "Airplane," "Films," "Engineers," and "Metal." The CD is continuous, with each song melding together fluidly, except for one song, aptly named "Random." The CD has a synthpop style, and, although The Pleasure Principle was produced in the 1970s, it has a futuristic sound. The lyrics are about humans and their relationship to each other and the physical world. The Pleasure Principle also includes a live version of Numan performing "On Broadway," "Remember I Was Vapor," "Bombers," and "Me! I Disconnect from You." The songs sound just as brilliant live as they do recorded.
The Pleasure Principle is a classic, and it has influenced many musicians, from Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. The music is unique and fascinating. Anyone would enjoy it.
