Christina Aguilera - Keeps Gettin' Better - A Decade of Hits
- Five time Grammy Award winning Christina Aguilera has released an album to display how she got those. Keeps Gettin' Better - A Decade of Hits is a decently made greatest hits album. One can’t even imagine that Aguilera first showed up ten years ago with the song, “Reflection,” for Disney’s Mulan. The album shows a lot of growth in Aguilera, from her vocals, to her writing style. Aguilera picked some of the best tracks and included four tracks that show her next direction.

There are a slew of tracks that are absent on the U.S. album. Probably the easiest to add in that wasn’t added was “The Voice Within.” The song actually did better on the Billboard charts than “Dirrty,” and “Dirrty” was included. Also included in the international albums but not the U.S. are the tracks “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely” and the Billboard #1 “Lady Marmalade.” Completely missing are two soundtrack songs: “Reflection” and “Car Wash.” Fans would have appreciated songs that Aguilera has performed live like “I Loves You Porgy” recorded into the album, even though it’s not a greatest hit.

There are four tracks that will help display the vision of Aguilera’s next album. The four tracks show a lot of electronic twists in similarity to acts like Goldfrapp and Lady GaGa. Two classic tracks get different versions: “Genie 2.0” is the spiritual successor to “Genie in a Bottle” and “You Are What You Are (Beautiful)” changes the idea behind “Beautiful.” Both are re-imagined to be more futuristic/electronic: The pacing is different, the notes are shifted in different ways, and some of the words are changed. “Genie 2.0” is the better of the two, “You Are What You Are” loses some magic from the original; Aguilera sounds bored when she doesn’t do vocal runs. There are two new songs added to the album and both will probably be released as singles. While “Keeps Getting Better” is a poppy and fun look at everyday emotions, “Dynamite” is explosive in its tempo and more electronic. “Dynamite” doesn’t get to display Aguilera’s vocal skills and at points doesn’t even sound like her voice.

Big fans of Christina Aguilera don’t need to worry if they can’t get to a local Target to pick up this album. The only good track that isn’t on other albums is “Keeps Getting Better,” and that could be downloaded separately. The album is a regular fanfare of greatest hits with the deluxe editions having music videos to some of the tracks. This album is a good way of holding off until Aguilera releases her next album, hopefully in 2009.
