Bill Gaither - 12 All-Time Favorite Homecoming Hymns
- Not much in the way of positive comments can be made about this CD. It's just simply not for everyone. A collection of hymns of praise and worship is definitely not this reviewer's “thing.”
That said, and despite the sleepy, laid-back quality of much of the music found here, there are a few highlights worth mentioning. The first of these is “Amazing Grace.” Like many covers of the song, it's done with a healthy dose of deeply moving and emotional power in the vocals. Despite an inability to sustain much of an interest throughout the duration of the entire album, there are notable moments toward the end, with songs such as “He Leadeth Me,” showcasing some versatility and soaring vocals before building to a rousing finish.
But ultimately, these high notes are not enough to overcome the overall feeling that one would rather be listening to almost anything else.
