Clara Bellino - Embarcadero Love
- Clara Bellino’s “Embarcadero Love” is a unique recording, if for no other reason than that it doesn’t seem to know quite what it wants to be.
Bouncing back and forth between multiple languages, the tracks on the album seem to want to take the listener on a geographical journey. However, it stops short of taking the listener on any sort of musical journey, which might have been a better idea.
The first track, “Tout Est Fini,” is sung in French, while the last song on the album, “Crepusculo,” is delivered in Spanish. “Goodnight Baby” and the awful “Swordfishtrombone” have lyrics that sound as if they were just put together at the last minute prior to recording. The overall effect here is that it is difficult to find any kind of emotional attachment to these songs, and the fact that the vocals are overly contrived simply serves as a further distraction.
This CD sounds like something that was home-produced by an amateur artist hoping to make it big someday; however, by the sound of things, that is not likely to happen in Ms. Bellino’s case anytime soon.
