John Caparulo - Meet Cap
- If you’re seeking the comedic equivalent of mental retardation, look no further than John Caparulo’s new album, Meet Cap.
The album, recorded during a live performance that somehow found its way to an airing on Comedy Central, showcases the limited talents of Caparulo, who relies more on a Jeff Foxworthy-esque delivery than on any material that could be considered remotely funny.
At his best, Foxworthy could at least generate laughter from a broad adult audience; Caparulo, on the other hand, appears to be targeting the 13-19 year-old age group, where substance isn’t half as important as the number of dirty words uttered during one’s set.
One segment in the middle of Meet Cap sums up Caparulo perfectly. He starts off the track, “Fast Food Nation,” with an ode to the olden days of McDonald’s. “I have to eat fast food,” he says in a gravelly voice that seems to reflect years of cigarette smoking. “I get mad if a frozen dinner’s too complicated.”
That’s really the essence of Caparulo: obesity and incompetence. That this “performance” occurred in front of a live audience is absolutely mind shattering. Can the world really contain so many cretins?
