Sally

While most of us might be more familiar with Sally Kellerman's work as an actress rather than musician, she offers up an admirable effort on the new CD, "Sally."

Containing mostly covers of familiar tunes, such as "Nobody's Perfect" and "I Put A Spell On You," this is a likable enough recording, and although Kellerman cannot lay claim to being the greatest of vocalists, she manages well enough to set an entertaining, upbeat mood for her listeners.

Kellerman's vocal style works best when she is going for a sultry atmosphere, as on songs such as "Tarpolean Napoleon." However, where it falls short is on the more commercial, pop-oriented efforts, such as the cover of "Love Potion No. 9," and especially of Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing," (of which, admittedly, I was never a big fan in the first place).

In the long run, while "Sally" is a nice, affable enough listening experience, it is unlikely to stand the test of time and be considered a classic. One wishes there had been just a little more originality and "spice" to it, rather than just another album full of re-hashed old covers.
