Alexi Murdoch - Time Without Consequence
- Alexi Murcoch’s "Time Without Consequence" is a fresh breath on a beautiful day. If you’ve ever walked down a serene wooded path on a warm autumn day, this album will take you back there.
The mellow harmonic undertones cater to the more sentimental ear. Murdoch achieves both a light and jovial quality as well as a more solemn, reflective cadence. With the classic acoustic guitar paired with his gentle, accented vocals, one may expect another cliché soft rocker. What they find is actually something very different and refreshing.
What the songs may lack in diversity of sound, they make up for in the poetry of their lyrics. He goes from speaking directly to the chaos and speed of passing time in “Blue Mind;” to the encouraging sentiments of helping a jaded soul stay afloat in “Breath.”
Orange Sky, an album favorite, is featured in the film "Garden State." Its simplicity does not undermine the emotional appeal expressed that every listener can relate to.
If you are looking for soft background music for a long car ride, thinking music to reflect on or write to, music to pop in your headphones for your walk to work as you face the strange world on the other side of your front door; you have found all of these here. But I would recommend “Song for You” for the last of these utilities, especially if sometimes you just want someone to sing to your sad mood.
In three words, the album can be described as vibrant, poetic, and revealing. It is a must hear.
