Modern Art

The Rippingtons's "Modern Art" is a great album, making the old sound new again and imbuing it with a youthful exuberance.

The title track is a little forgettable but songs such as "Paris Groove," featuring some lovely guitar work, are classics in the making. "Pastels On Canvas" evokes a European, almost flamenco-style feel, and "Body Art" is infused with a very funky groove. But it is "Jet Set" that stands out as having the most depth as it features some truly inspired and innovative piano solos.

What works best on "Modern Art" is the interplay that is evident between the keyboards, horns and percussion. These guys seem to be truly enjoying themselves and the music sounds as vibrant as it did when they first started recording, more than two decades ago. This album is sure to appeal to fans and is certain to make a few new fans as well.
