Alex Call & Lisa Carrie - Passion & Purpose
- "Passion & Purpose" by Alex Call and Lisa Carrie is an uneven recording. It seems to put forth a spiritual or religious message without a great deal of conviction.
"I Can Start A Fire" kicks things off affably enough with orchestration similar to that of a James Taylor sing-along or other classic inspirational tunes. But upon hearing songs such as "The Calling" and "You're Committed to Another Man," with their sugarcoated lyrical stylings and overly affected vocal deliveries, I couldn't help but be somewhat skeptical as to what the rest of the album had in store.
There are some decent moments to be found including "Your Love Is A Good Addiction," which is nicely bluesy, and "Drop Dead Gorgeous," a track that was very reminiscent of the kitschy fun of recordings by artists like Dr. John or Little Feat. But these are the exceptions, rather than the rule.
"It's Never Too Late" carries with it a positive, carpe diem sort of message. Considering the times in which we live, it's always a good thing to hear now and again to remind us to appreciate every moment. Although I may not have appreciated every moment of "Passion & Purpose," I am sure there are those who will.
