Anna Wilson - Time Changes Everything
- Anyone who thinks that jazz is too old-fashioned or just not a good genre of music should listen to this album. Their opinion will change drastically, and they might even find themselves yearning for more.
Time Changes Everything is the critically-acclaimed album from Anna Wilson, a jazz singer/songwriter with a voice so dreamy, it can make both men and women fall into a trance-like state. Her vocals are so clear and crisp, the instrumentals are rendered practically useless. Of course, the instrumentals do provide a soft yet vibrant backdrop for every song, but they are often overshadowed by the silky texture of Wilson’s powerhouse pipes.
Each song on the album tells a story, and Wilson’s songwriting talent really shines through. The words come to life, painting a vivid picture for listeners. “Drink It Up,” for example, can be considered an ode to wine lovers as the lyrics and melody together enliven the senses. This song is a celebration of life and the good things to be enjoyed.
“Wedding Bell Blues” is a familiar song that gives away one of Wilson’s musical inspirations, Laura Nyro. The bittersweet tune about unrequited love is noticeably different from other well-known versions, but the change is welcome as it fits right in with the other ballads on the album.
Despite the fresh sound and great music Time Changes Everything provides, jazz skeptics may find themselves tuning out. Since jazz is not for everyone, this album may not receive the appreciation it deserves. However, Anna Wilson’s unique voice will not be easily or quickly forgotten. It is special and not even the most cynical of cynics can resist falling in love with it.
