Capture Me

Joe Henschel's "Capture Me" is an album of Christian music first and foremost, and a music recording second. Unfortunately in this case, the message overwhelms and distracts from the music.

For example, "My Heart Speaks" came across as a song that was trying too hard to be pop music, when it (along with so many of the other songs) seems to be more fitting being sung on stage at a modern-day megachurch.

Many of the songs here are very reminiscent of Michael W. Smith, although Smith's vocal delivery is quite a bit stronger than what is heard here. "You Never Let Go" is something of a misstep, as it is not entirely in the singer's vocal range.

"Sweet Breath of God" does not suffer from this problem however, and is a nice change, as is "Majesty," which sounds more like a Top 40 hit by an artist like Kelly Clarkson or the Plain White T's rather than a Christian anthem.

"Capture Me" will likely appeal to those who habitually purchase Christian music recordings, but it did not succeed entirely in capturing me.
