54-40 - Northern Soul
- 54-40's "Northern Soul" is dripping with musical influences and original, from-the-hip creative energy, thanks to its pop/rock riffs and tight harmonies interlaced with poetic lyrics.

The title track features a great duet and is a sad lament that is relevant for the times in which we live. “Where Did the Money Go” sounded like the love child of R.E.M. and Sara Bareilles, with its high-energy upbeat piano playing.

But just when I thought I had the tone of the record pegged as "friendly pop/rock," songs like “Lucky” and “Shade Grows” came along and took things in another direction entirely. With beautifully complex, soft-as-air melodies that move you, these songs are not to be missed.

There is not a single track that feels out of place on "Northern Soul," which is that rare find in the music world these days. It's a product that is every bit as good as the sum of all its parts. Worth a listen!
