Bright As You
Bright As You is a star-making turn from Jason Harrod that acts as a window to the soul of this lyrical poet and reflects its best self back to its listeners.
"Night, Fall On Me" has vocals reminiscent of a young Steve Winwood's voice, very soulful and full of rock energy at the same time. "Voyeurs" is a tale beautifully shaded with melancholy and longing However, the notes on the higher end of the scale delivered during the bridge seem out of sync with the song's jazz-like style.
"My Mad Girlfriend" sounds like a marriage between The B-52s and Peter Gabriel circa the mid-1980s, and is good clean fun. Songs like "Good Night Sunshine" and "For Your Time," on the other hand, are beautifully understated and reminded me of the work of Crosby, Stills and Nash with their lovely interplay between imagery, melody and harmony.
I found that the slower songs were more appealing to me personally, but all in all this is a terrific CD, and audiences will be hard-pressed to find anything quite so "bright" as Jason Harrod.
