Adele - 19
- The first American-released album from British singer Adele, 19, is nothing short of incredible. This album is filled with songs about relationships, falling in love and losing those whom she loves.
“Chasing Pavements” is an amazing track about a woman who finally realizes she is in love. Her voice is eerily reminiscent of fellow British singer Amy Winehouse. There are also shades of influence from Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James in her wonderfully powerful voice.
“Crazy for You” is a track which boldly puts Adele’s voice front and center. There is an accompaniment behind her; however, it is simply blown away by her vocals. It is a beautiful song, which immediately made me stop what I was doing and take in every note of this song.
“My Same” is a track where her voice, in my opinion, sounds very close to that of fellow British singer Duffy. It is an upbeat sounding track about a man who does her wrong and breaks her down.
If there’s a new British invasion occurring now, I’m glad that Adele is part of it, and glad that 19 made its way into my collection.
