The Virgins

New York-based electro band The Virgins has seen many changes in the past few years. The band formed in 2006, released their five-song EP in 2007, before releasing their full, self-titled record "The Virgins" in 2008. The band shot to recognition when their music was featured as the entire score of an episode of the CW's "Gossip Girl."

Their debut album "The Virgins" is infused with 80s dance music and fun, yet daring lyrics in which they take stabs at rich girls and love affairs. Each of the ten tracks on the album lends themselves easily to dancing, or easy listening. The band does a great job of incorporating the Euro beat into their tracks; it's no wonder that they have become more commercially successful in the UK.

"One Week of Danger" is one of the most catchy and enjoyable songs on the record. The lyrics are genuine since the lead singer actually spent some time living homeless in New York. It's easy to glance over those heavy topics on the record due to the upbeat rhythms that disguise the songs.

"Rich Girls" made it to number 64 on the Rolling Stone Best Singles of 2008. The track is a solid, polished disco song with lots of rock and roll mixed in. At times the band appears to be poking fun at their New York roots. They continually comment on the stuck-up attitude of rich girls within the catchy tune.

With some artists, the thought of buying their entire album is nearly unimaginable. While three songs might be decent, the rest are not. However this is not the case with The Virgins. You can not help but be enticed by their entire album.
