Make Yourself

If I hadn't made me, I'd be more inclined to bow / Powers that be would have swallowed me up but that's more than I can allow.

Due to rich lyrics such as these formulating Incubus' third album, "Make Yourself," it's no wonder why Incubus is one of the top alternative rock bands in the United States. This song that gives its name to the album is full of rage and impatience. With similar songs throughout, the album is a storm with rays of sunlight casting out occasionally. Unlike their recent albums, "Make Yourself" marks the band's growth evident by more challenging rhythms and more intricate lyrics.

The single "Drive" has been placed on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks charts, also accompanied by the singles "Stellar" and "Pardon Me." Their musical evolution is major. It's risky for a musician to try something new while keeping current supporters interested. There is a great chance that fans will disapprove of the new sound and look elsewhere for better music. Luckily, Incubus was adept in creating a new album that wowed dedicated fans, plus appealing to new followers.

As for the rays of sunlight, "Stellar" has innovative image-seeking lyrics. "Meet me in outer space / We could spend the night / Watch the earth come up," begins the song and instantly alleviates any pent-up emotions. Incubus' has an array of vivid stories on the album which is admirable.

I could probably talk about this album until the cows come home, and I still would feel excited to talk to somebody else about it. Let me end this review by saying "Make Yourself" is one of my favorite albums to date.
