Andrew W.K. - I Get Wet
- I get the feeling that if I met Andrew W.K. I would like him a lot. The guy has written an album devoted, more or less, to partying! Clearly, he has priorities. Everything about Andrew W.K. is big. He’s a big guy, with a big style, and a big sound. His music sounds like arena rock on steroids. Strangely enough for a metal singer, he’s also extremely happy! None of his songs, despite a heavy metal tempo and volume, are written in a minor key, giving every song an extremely positive vibe. It is of note that currently he is marketing himself as a motivational speaker. On all of his best songs, he has very catchy choruses and song licks. If you listen to this album you will sing along. You just can’t help it! “I Love NYC” is a great example, wherein the chorus, which is infinitely repeatable, is followed by a little ditty, which is equally catchy.
This is loud music. It sounds like a wall collapsing in G major . Andrew W.K. is clearly playing for the stadiums. However, it becomes difficult to listen to the album all the way through for this reason. He doesn’t seem to know how to turn down the volume, and it leaves many of the songs sounding too similar. The album runs into a similar problem with the fact that all the songs are in a major key, and most of the songs have the same tempo. For all these faults, though, this is a good cd! It’s a lot of fun for those who like to party until their nose bleeds. It’s too bad that this party, like all others, must eventually end.
