Friendly Fires
The first song I heard by the Friendly Fires was an Aeroplane remix of "Paris." I fell in love instantly. The 2008 album, "Friendly Fires," is high energy dance-punk imported from the UK. The album is funky and has a unique sound that blends electronic beats and punk guitar rifts.
"Jump in the Pool" is the first song on the album and makes for a great summer anthem. (I blast it when I'm driving around with the windows down.) The song is poppy and speaks to following your ambitions. Keep breathing/keep searching/keep holding on.
The radio ready track of the album is "White Diamonds." It starts out as a sleek sexy song, but the chorus is more flirtatious. I could see the song being used in a movie as a leading lady walks dramatically into a room. "White Diamonds" is my favorite track on the album. It's a great tune that encompasses the style of the Friendly Fires by being bright, upbeat and very danceable.
The album has a disco vibe to it, which I love. "Lovesick," "Photobooth" and "On Board" are club ready dance tracks. There's synth heavy track that is a nice interjection between all the disco. If you're a fan of the new age '80s sound, check out "Skeleton Boy."
The Friendly Fires are a young band and their first full-length album shows this. I really like their sound and the vibe. It's a great mix of dance-punk, electronic and synth-pop. It's hard to compare them wholly to another band because each song has a different feel.
