All Time Low - So Wrong, It's Right
- All Time Low, a pop-punk group formed in 2003, out of Maryland, have announced that they will release their next album, “Nothing Personal,” on July 7.

Their September 2007 release, “So Wrong, It’s Right,” is pure fun. It’s easy to see that the group doesn’t take themselves too seriously. Their subject matter is mostly that of California beaches, young love, the party scene, etc. You know, basically all that stuff that a young high school student might be overly concerned with. It is impossible not to like this album though, because musically it really is appealing.

While their lyrics are not groundbreaking by any means, they do seem to be heartfelt. All of those girls in the bathrooms at shows, wearing bright high top sneakers, emerging from clouds of hairspray, love these boys – really, what’s not to love for fans of the likes of Boys Like Girls, the Maine, Blink-182 and all those related? On “Come One, Come All” the song opens with the lyrics, “Come one, come all, you’re just in time to witness my first breakdown, ‘cause there’s a mile gone for every minute passed, when I’m stuck in this town.” The song explores that theme of feeling like you have outgrown a place, like your high school or your small hometown.

The album closes with the track, “Poppin’ Champagne,” which seems to be a lonely teen's thoughts while they have been drinking too much, a seemingly realistic depiction by most young adults' experience. Because of All Time Low’s appeal to young teens, the word “champagne” was later censored in the music video. This seems ironic though, because the song is most likely also about All Time Low not knowing what to do if the group becomes heavy hitters in the music industry.

One of my favorite tracks on the album is “Remembering Sunday” which is acoustic. It is one of the more “emo” songs, but I think that there is a line that I love because it sounds like something that a freshman English major might scribble in a torn up notebook. “Forgive me I am trying to find my calling, I’m calling at night, I don’t mean to be a bother but, have you seen this girl? She’s been running through my dreams, and it’s driving me crazy it seems, I’m gonna ask her to marry me.” You can almost hear the girls sigh.

Even if you are more of a hardcore lover, you will still really enjoy this album. It puts you in a great mood, mostly because it reminds one of hanging out with your friends at the beach, partying and maybe even falling in love for the first time.

It will be interesting to hear in what direction All Time Low takes the next album.

All Time Low is Alex Gaskarth (guitar, vocals), Jack Barakat (guitar), Rian Dawson (drums) and Zach Merrick (bass). You can see All Time Low on the Vans Warped Tour this summer during July and August.
