Girl Talk - Feed the Animals
- When one first hears the name “Girl Talk” as the title of a band, perhaps the first inkling one might get of the genre would be a poppy, bubblegum sound, maybe a girl group of four or more tight hooks yet a bucketful of nonsensical lyrics. And yet, Girl Talk fits none of these descriptions. Girl Talk is simply the creation of fantastically interwoven musical mashups by Pittsburgh born DJ Gregg Gillis. Over throbbing beats that can incorporate what can seem like 20 songs, Gillis can take any genre from T. Pain to Avril Lavigne to Sinead O’Connor and make them all sound as if each artist went to the recording studio together and mixed the tracks themselves. Granted, the basis of many Girl Talk songs involves club favorites of recent years, but with this basis, old pop and rock favorites from the '80s and '90s are somehow morphed into relevancy again. Girl Talk’s latest album, “Feed the Animals,” is available online where fans may “name their price” for the entire album, in which a legitimate price can be zero dollars and cents for download. Although I have a collection of tracks from many other DJs including DJ Polyester and Lobsterdust, no one even comes close to the effervescent rhythms of Girl Talk.
