Frank Sinatra - The Heart of the Matter
- The great thing about Frank Sinatra's sound is the fantastic imagery it presents to the listener's imagination.
"The Heart of the Matter" does just that. Songs about love and longing for love ease one's worried mind. This is music from the time when orchestras and horns were plenty and standard songs such as "I Love Paris," "That Old Black Magic," and "I've Got You Under My Skin" were necessary for an enjoyable evening.
Sinatra set moods. He sang for the day and night, goodtimes and bad. What ever mood you're feeling you can find a song that fits it.
Sinatra did radio and movies as well as recordings. He came at a time in the 1930s when stardom and celebrity were growing into a bigger production. The great thing about Sinatra was his interpretation of songs. He had an ability to perfect a song into his own talk-style of singing, which time after time made it classic.
This album represents his succinct vocal power over a song. An important part of singing jazz and swing songs is the capability of phrasing the song properly. Sinatra's mastery for phrasing is clear in "Dancing in the Dark" as well as "Old Devil Moon" and the somber yet ecstatic "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning."
The songs are as relevent today as they will be tomorrow. The music is easy listening for whatever you are feeling; be it sadness or delight, nostalgia or just daydreaming. The songs and accompaning instruments will make you feel something and more than likely you can relate to them.
