Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
- Who would have thought four preppy guys with bongo beats from New York would have topped the indie charts this past year? Yet that is the story of Vampire Weekend, a group of humble young boys who had left their entry-level day jobs to become musicians.

Each member of the band had graduated as friends from Columbia University in 2006 when they formed the group, with real world hopes never thinking they could break the big time. Yet the Vampires' debut has a fresh sound unlike many other alternative artists around.

The band seem to emote a plethora of influences, there are african drums and tropicalia-like riffs on "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa," and a poppy hi-hat stomp on the hit "A-punk." Weekend's lyrics often tackle relationships, specific unstereotypical individuals and the events of their lives at college. The delivery is often fun and melodious while the words have a scholarly air comparable to the learnings of the recent graduates.
