Mya - Moodring
- Mya is sure a sophisticated lady on her album, "Moodring," but nasty when she wants to be. She pours her heart out on songs “After the Rain” and “Free Fallin,” but shows her tough side on “Step” and “Whatever Bitch.” Her fresh and elegant voice joined with R&B beats makes for a tastefully original record.
The album opens with the playful song “My Love is Like… Wo,” and throughout the song, you can hear the rapper Missy Elliott throwing in her two cents. Also, you can listen to the rapper Common supporting Mya in the jazzy tune “Real Compared to What” with his smooth and insightful lyrics. Even though these popular artists collaborated with her on the album, there is no doubt that Mya can remarkably carry on solo, as in “Anatomy 1 On 1.” She sings in a seductive tone that creates the perfect atmosphere for a passionate night with a lover.
The album does a magnificent job in showing compassion for women who find themselves in a sticky situation involving their relationships. “Hurry Up” speaks to those women who have left home in the middle of a fight with a boyfriend to be consoled by another more acceptable man, while “Late” preaches to those women who believe they became pregnant by their boyfriend and he suddenly becomes deaf to the subject. Moreover, “Taste This” creates a scenario where a woman seeks revenge on her ex-boyfriend for all the pain he has caused her.
"Moodring" will inflict on many emotions inside of you. The songs on the album are just right for a long shower when all you feel like doing is singing.
