Oasis - Definately, Maybe
- The English band, Oasis, shook Europe and America in the 1990s. This was due to their rock and roll swagger that replaced the death of Kurt Cobain and the fallout of grunge music as a result.
“Definitely, Maybe” is the band's debut album. It helped skyrocket the band to stardom, and their following album skyrocketed them to SUPERstardom. This album is chock-full of straight ahead rock and roll; including the opening “Rock and Roll Star,” the joyous “Live Forever,” and pretty much the rest of the album.
Oasis helped pave the way for what would be called “Brit-pop” of the '90s. The world of fashion and music turned to Britain while the scene in America sat in limbo. This pendulum effect of attention, focused on either English or American artists, is consistent; with America never really giving a rat about the English – the opposite is true for Britain.
The mid to late '90s, however, sparked a change in the masses' attention. Bands like Radiohead, the Verve, Blur, and Oasis let America and the rest of the world know that England can also pack a punch.
The great thing about this record is its garage-tinged rock and roll that displays the rock aesthetic of: dream big, start a band, and take over the world. Although this dream is for the few and far between, Oasis did exactly that.
