Tha Carter III
Lil' Wayne is one weird dude. Tatted up from head to toe, with a shining grill across his teeth and mangy dreadlocks, he's one cat I wouldn't want to run across in a darkened alley. And he's only 5'6"! Equally eccentric are his lyrics...his tone runs the gamut from a marijuana induced cackling to a ponderous, raspy whisper. And with the release of "Tha Carter III," with triple platinum sales at this point, audiences have embraced this nutty cretin.
"Tha Carter III" is Wayne's greatest album to date. He's more confident and oddball than ever. But at the same time, he maintains his talent for connecting with audiences. "Lollipop" and "Got Money" are solid club bangers, but represent only the pop/rap side of Wayne and less of his lyrical skills.
"Phone Home" is deliciously off the wall, with a thumping bass and catching chanting of "Phone Home, WEEZY." It may be the weirdest song you will find yourself bumping from car.
"Tie My Hands," "Mr. Carter" and "Dr. Carter" round out the album nicely, showcasing braggadocio, emotional fury, and genuine wit.
At times, Wayne's odd delivery may be a little much. Sometimes there is such a thing as being too bizarre. But when Wayne connects, he hits home runs every time.
