Through the Eyes of the Dead - Malice
- Through the Eyes of the Dead is without a doubt an American heavy metal band. All of those things that bands like Pantera introduced, can be found here. The most obvious one is the enormous amount of breakdowns. These guys can break down just about anything. Also typical of American heavy metal, the lyrics here are neither shrieked, nor grumbled, but bellowed. A previous singer for the band used a lower register, cookie-monster type vocal. The current singer is much more audible and elastic, and can do many more things with his voice. A backup singer adds a beat element to the vocals, as well as a high, shrieked contrast to the main vocals, which are deep and growly. The music here is directed by the drums, which are decidedly thrashy, and deafeningly quick. There isn’t really one thing that stands out on the album, and despite the fact that this is a brutal CD, it feels like the band is holding back.
