Med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust
Do you speak Icelandic? If so, then you will know Sigur Ros's album, titled "Med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust," in English means "With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly." Even though the title implies fun, youthful nature, the album is mature and complex. While all the songs are in Icelandic except for one, they speak loudly and clearly. With songs that are affectionate and grand, listening to the post-rock album for the first time all the way through is an unforgettable experience.
Determined to break the boundaries between classical and contemporary music, the Icelandic band intertwines many instruments, such as violins, xylophones, trumpets, electric guitars, bass guitars, pianos, and drums, just to name the majority. "Godan daginn" uses an acoustic guitar and atmospheric sounds that gives the impression of floating through space. Sigur Ros isn't afraid to unify classical orchestra music with popular rock music.
Worthy of note, the song, "Gobbledigook," uses many percussion instruments. With on-the-beat hits on the percussions, the guitars strumming on the up-beats and down-beats, and the piece having mixed meters, the convoluted sounds are forever throbbing in agreement. On the opposite side of the spectrum, "Straumnes" gives ambient music its name. The song is simplistic and is capable of conjuring up countless images.
The album is extraordinarily beautiful. The many tracks will release tension and have you spinning in the sun with your skirt drifting in the wind.
