The Frankenstein Girls May Seem Strangely Sexy

Mindless Self Indulgence is one of the most bizarre bands ever. Everything about it blurts unexpectedly, and listening to it is like listening to musical non-sequiturs. MSI has created a crazy blend of hip-hop and techno and rock that has set them aside from the rest of the musical world. Their double-disk, "The Frankenstein Girls May Seem Strangely Sexy," shows us that they are an original act which simply cannot be replicated. The music has some defining characteristics that allow us to separate MSI. The first thing one can hear is the drums, which appear to be synthesized, and may come from an electric drum set. These seem to pair well with the other synth work, giving the music a dance feel. The guitar lines are heavy and distorted, and lead the music melodically. But certainly the most noticeable aspect is lead singer Jimmy Urine's voice. It sounds as though he has a rubber band in his throat. At a million miles per hour, he bellows and squeaks, and just does mind-blowing things with his voice. The songs on the album, which run in alphabetical order, are all short, most under three minutes, which was a wise decision. MSI has outdone themselves, and shown us that formulas don't have to be so formulaic.
