Brokencyde - I'm Not a Fan But the Kids Like It
- Brokencyde’s “I’m Not a Fan But the Kids Like It” is a great party album. Use caution because it contains 17 songs full of profanity, nasty comments about genital areas and drugs.
“Booty Call” featuring rapper E-40 and "Get Up" has crunk beats mixed with a hip hop sound that makes you want to dance. However, the lyrics and the rapping are unoriginal. Lyrics like “Shake it like some chocolate milk” are simple and are “played out” as kids would say. The only difference between this album and any other crunk electronica album is the screaming in the background on every track. Some may say that the screaming adds to the songs, but it is annoying.
“Sex Toys” and “Freaxxx” are degrading to women and sound awful. In both songs, Brokencyde comments on women’s panties dropping, “booty shaking” and tossing money on them like strippers. In “Freaxxx,” the lyrics are cheesy when one of the guys rap “I know they want it, alcoholics are some sex freaks/ This ex and chronic gots me wanting to get messy.” They call girls sleazy and other obscene names and rap about them as if they were objects and not human beings. Beside the terrible lyrics, the beats on these songs includes growling and burping noises towards the end.
“I’m Not a Fan But the Kids Like It” is too explicit for young listeners (unless parents consider lyrics like “You make my pee pee hard are appropriate), but Brokencyde’s sound is complex and defies any one specific category. The album is noteworthy for the enjoyable beats. They are up tempo and full of energy.
After listening to Brokencyde’s album, I can understand why no one is a fan, except for the kids.
