Israel Houghton - The Power of One
- “The Power of One” is an amazing Christian album. Israel Houghton does an excellent job with this one because, as the title suggest, it takes the power of one to deliver the word of God.

“Everywhere I Go” is a song telling people that God is there watching over everyone. Houghton sings, “I belong to you/ and you belong to me Lord/I’m surrounded everywhere that I go/ I am yours/and you are mine,” which you can tell that he has a good relationship with the Lord and encourages everyone to do the same.

“Just Wanna Say” is an upbeat track with a choir as backup vocals. This song is about not being afraid to believe in God and stand up for Him. A female vocal sings, “You said you never leave me/Said you never forsake me,” while he sings the chorus. Houghton samples the line from Psalm 23, “even though I go through the valley of the shadow of death,” and that fits with the meaning of the song. “Just Wanna Say” influences you to want to get up and dance while praising the Lord.

“You Found Me” is the track where Houghton crosses genres. This is a different style with a rock sound. The heavy violins playing in the intro catch the listener’s attention and probably has the listener wondering if this is a Christian song. Despite the guitars and drums, this is definitely a song about Christ. Another sample is from “Amazing Grace” when Houghton sings, “I was lost, but now I’m found . . . I was blind but now I see.” To close out the song, there is a rap that works. You can sing, rap, or shout, just as long as the Lord’s word is being told.

I must say that I enjoyed listening to this album. It is not a boring or dry Christian album, but very spiritual and moving. Overall, “The Power of One” is a great album.
