Amanda Blank - I Love You
- There are many “bad girls” in the music industry with music that is different, sex crazed, and just plain out there when it comes down to the content. Artists such as Lady Gaga and Katy Perry should watch their music territory because newcomer Amanda Blank is shining with her debut album, “I Love You.”
Blank’s new single, “Might Like You Better,” has a techno beat that is easy to dance to. Her lyrics are vulgar and comical. In most of her songs, Blank raps mind-blowing verses that can be controversial. The chorus, “might like you better if we slept together/ I might like you better/ let’s get together baby,” is not appropriate for young listeners.
“A Love Song” is a remake of L.L. Cool J’s “I Need Love,” with the girl’s viewpoint of breaking hearts, but trying to find the true meaning of love. The song starts off with harps beautifully playing and then Blank raps the famous line, “When I’m alone in my room sometimes I stare at the wall/ and in the back of my mind, I hear my conscious call/ telling me I need a [boy] who’s as sweet as a dove/ for the first time in my life/ I see I need love.” She switches up the second verse with her own lyrics and a sample from Santigold’s “I’m a Lady.” Blank impresses many with this rendition.
“Leaving You Behind” is the only track off the album where she sings and doesn't rap. This sensitive-side ballad shows Blank‘s personal side. With her heartfelt lyrics, “feel my resistance got a grip on/ using my legs/ because my head ain’t right/ leaving you behind” is a thrilling way to wrap up the album.
“I Love You” may be explicit, but it makes a great hip-hop album. There aren’t a lot of female rappers that can sing in the music industry and Amanda Blank broke through the scene with her “bad girl” hedonism. Some may negatively comment on Amanda Blank’s lyrics and her flagrant image; however Amanda Blank’s flaws are the main reasons why people love her music.
