Cut Copy - Bright Like Neon Love
- Put on your dancing shoes! Cut Copy is probably the most toe-tapping group of hipsters who have ever emerged from the land down under. Composed of three young musicians who play as an ordinary band with a heavy keyboard influence, Australia’s Cut Copy originally started as vocalist Dan Whitford’s attempt at making music that appealed to his interests as a DJ. Whitford is also a graphic artist and the cover of their first LP is quite a testament to his skills. As for the sound, the band is very reminiscent of the many synth-pop bands of the '80s; heavy on low pulsing rhythms and fleeting melodies, much of the tunes relying on a copious mix of bass guitar and a synth that mirrors it. It is indeed excellent club music, and while the lyrics aren’t polished, they call to the needs at the dance floor, of love and desire for the present moment.
